The SPOCCOs have worked hard throughout the first half of their return campaigns in Division 1 across all grades. Led by new head coach Geoff Riddle, the A grade has worked its way into the top four, a remarkable turnaround from their position at the bottom of the same competition in 2017. The B grade has also built a strong foundation for the second half of the 2019 season, sitting at 6-3 and third in the Division 1 Reserves competition. Jack Colley (an old scholar) has worked hard with a young group in the C grade who, whilst not enjoying many favourable results, have progressed significantly and are enjoying playing together.
An exciting trend this year has been the continued growth in our contingent of school leavers. Across all grades, we have welcomed old scholars from the class of 2018. The likes of Hamish Gitsham, Will Cameron, Charlie Gibson, Sam Langley, Charles Higgins and many more have solidified our young core for years to come. To have these boys come straight from school where they have already played together and got senior experience from a young age bodes extremely well for the future of SPOC Football Club.
Off the field, we have been fortunate to welcome a range of new sponsors: Duttons Automotive (owned by Jack & Julia Dowling, who have boys at Saints), Qatar Airways, Pangaea Travel (owned by Sandeep Agarwal, an old scholar) and McMahon Services are now among those who have contributed to the club. All these organisations have a connection to the club and reinforce the growing strength of the SPOC Football community.
There’s never been a better time to be a SPOCCO. Come down to the Caterer and join our loyal (and vocal) supporters for a great day at the footy. While you’re there, grab a raffle ticket to support the Club’s major fundraising initiative. You might just win a car!
