After having to reschedule the annual Old Scholars Intercollegiate Badminton match twice due to COVID restrictions, SPOC Badminton were thrilled to finally host this match on Thursday the 3rd of December.

The game kicked off with doubles. We saw fast paced rallies from all games, particularly in the number 1 doubles, played by Hui Chen and recent old scholar, Austin Lindsay. We managed to take out all the doubles games in straight sets, giving us a comfortable lead heading into singles. SPOC won the first three singles comfortably. Anson Lee at number 3 did have a tough first set, however by identifying his opponent’s weaknesses he was able to win his singles in straight sets. SPOC carried this momentum on to the last 3 singles but were unlucky not to win 2 very close singles matches at number 5 and 6.

Overall SPOC defeated PAOC 7 games to 2, and brought home the trophy for another year, after its brief stay at PAOC. A very big thank you to everyone that helped us on the day and to St Peter’s College and Annie Bawden for their support in hosting this event.

To top off 2020, SPOC Badminton Club were awarded Badminton Australia's club of the month this December.
